WI has updated its Certified Seismic Installation Program to reflect changes in the California Building Standards Code.
Projects approved for construction under the 2013 CBC will be required to use the new attachment details and fastener schedules. Projects approved under previous editions of the code will continue to use the previous CSIP attachment system.
WI’s attachment details for seismic anchorage of tall storage and wall-hung casework have been approved by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development under the CBC (Title 24, California Code of Regulations, 2013).
The 2013 building code does not establish standards for seismic attachment of base cabinets. WI’s CSIP program, however, will continue to require compliance with the previous attachment system for base cabinets.
The details and engineering have been approved under OSHPD’s Preapproval of Manufacturer’s Certification (OPM) program under CBC 2013. The OPM program supplants the previous OSHPD’s Preapproval of Anchorage (OPA) program under CBC 2010.
WI engaged an engineering firm to work with OSHPD to develop acceptable seismic anchoring specifications as a benefit to all WI members and licensees.
Details of the WI CSIP can be found here.
