The Architectural Sales Representative must have a passion for quality, a talent for building excellent relationships with architects and support staff, a strong background in sales, and extensive knowledge of the architectural millwork industry.

General Purpose of Job
The primary responsibility of the Architectural Sales Representatives is to meet with architects and specifiers to market the Woodwork Institute’s programs and services. Architectural Sales Representatives are the primary point of contact for specifiers, and must maintain good working relationships with all architects, engineers, specification writers and design professionals in his/her territory and demonstrate to those customers our desire to provide the highest level of professional services available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Territory Representative must:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for architects, engineers, specification writers and design professionals to provide:
    • Answers to questions pertaining to specifications, details, products, fabrication, and quality issues as per the North American Architectural Woodwork Standards
    • A review of specifications upon request
    • A means of communicating new projects that require certification
    • Information regarding our certification programs and the benefits
    • AIA seminars
  • Assist with discovering contractual parties and updating statuses for projects
  • Attend association meetings and trade shows
  • Organize area meetings for Affiliates and architectural firms
  • Be able to travel up to 75%, with occasional overnight stays (1-2 days per month)
  • Live within 20 miles of either the San Francisco or Sacramento metro areas.

Skills Required


Ability to:

  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business information, technical procedures, or government regulations, and read architectural drawings and specifications
  • Write reports and business correspondence; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Use Microsoft Office Applications and data entry business platforms

Additional Information
The Architectural Sales Representative is responsible for developing a large network of design professionals.  Participation in the local chapter of Construction Specification Institute (CSI), including monthly meetings and occasional tradeshows, is expected.   Additional participation in local industry events to grow this network is also expected.

All Applicants must provide proof of these requirements:

  • 5 years’ experience employed as a commercial woodworking professional 
  • Legal to work in the US
  • Unrestricted driver’s license


The successful Salesperson must be able to work with minimal supervision, have good project management skills, organization, and time management skills.

This employee must be physically capable of lifting 25 lbs, climbing a ladder, crouching down in a squat for up to 10-15 minutes at a time, and walking multiple flights of stairs. 
           
Supervisory Responsibilities:  There are no subordinate employees reporting to this position.  There are no other non-supervisory employees who report directly to this position.

Pay Range and Benefits

  • Hourly rate of $25-$30/hr, dependent on experience and location
  • Part time, up to 30 hours/week, in first year
  • Growth to full time with added responsibilities available upon consideration in second year (benefits included)
