Woodwork Institute is a non-profit organization started in 1955 as the authoritative source of industry standards and information for the architectural woodwork community. Our core purpose is to assure excellence and craftsmanship in woodwork through the development of standards and enforcement of such through certification programs. Across America, architects rely on our certification programs to ensure that their architectural millwork specifications are being met.

The Architectural Service Representative must have extensive knowledge of commercial-grade architectural woodwork, a passion for quality, a talent for building excellent relationships with architects, specification writers, and fabricators, and are required to have a minimum of five years working in the construction industry.

General Purpose of Job

The primary responsibilities of our Architectural Services Representatives are to conduct inspections of both shop drawings and completed jobs to determine compliance with the North American Architectural Woodwork Standards and the architect’s specifications. The representative will regularly meet with architects, specification writers, woodworking fabricators and general contractors to provide the Woodwork Institute’s certification services. Architectural Services Representatives are the primary point of contact to both architects and to the Woodwork Institute Affiliates. They must establish and maintain good working relationships with both groups in his/her territory and demonstrate to those customers our desire to provide the highest level of professional services available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Schedule and conduct inspections regarding woodworking fabrication and installation
  • Act as the primary point of contact for architectural community in the territory
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Affiliates
  • Attend association meetings and trade shows
  • Organize area meetings for Affiliates and architectural firms

Skills Required

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in commercial architectural woodwork
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business information, technical procedures, and government regulations
  • Read architectural drawings and specifications
  • Write reports and business correspondence
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from general contractors, fabricators, architects, and specification writers
  • Use Microsoft Office Applications and data entry business platforms

Employment requirements:

  • 5 years’ experience employed as a commercial woodworking professional
  • Legal to work in the US
  • Unrestricted driver’s license

Additional Information

Architectural Service Representatives are responsible for maintaining a large network of design professionals. Participation in the local chapter of Construction Specification Institute (CSI), including monthly meetings and occasional tradeshows, is expected. Additional participation in local industry events to maintain this network is also encouraged. It is also desirable that the successful Architectural Services Representative be able to work with minimal supervision, have good project management skills, organization and time management skills, oral and written communication skills, working knowledge of MS Office applications and must be able to travel 50% of the time.

Territory representative must be physically capable of lifting 25 lbs, climbing a ladder, crouching down in a squat for up to 10-15 minutes at a time, and walking multiple flights of stairs.

Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no subordinate supervisors reporting to this position. There are no other non-supervisory employees who report directly to this job
