Acknowledged Products Application
Products are reviewed for compliance to the quality standards found in the current edition of the North American Architectural Woodwork Standards
Acknowledgment of a product’s compliance is a service the Woodwork Institute offers to manufacturers, fabricators, and end users alike, and is offered in the following format:
For Affiliates
- By letter from the Institute.
- Announcement via email and social media channels.
- Listing on our website.
- Right to use the Woodwork Institute’ Listed Product logo for their qualifying products.
For Non-Affiliates
- By letter of confirmation from the Institute.
Woodwork Institute Affiliates have the right to an unlimited number of product acknowledgment requests.
Non-Affiliates are charged a product review fee of $500 per group of products submitted (limited to a maximum of five distinct products per group).
To request product acknowledgment, applicants must submit:
- An application, click here to fill out our online form.
- The appropriate Declaration Form in our online application.
- A physical sample.
- Sales literature.
- Technical literature confirming compliance, and,
- Independent test results confirming compliance, in the case of hinges, drawer slides, solid surface, laminates, and chemical resistance.
Testing Requirements
Independent Testing is required for Hinges and Drawer Slides and MUST BE INCLUDED with this application. As per NAAWS Section 10, Casework, Subsections 10.5.1 through 10.5.1.2, 10.5.1,5 and 10.5.1.8 testing requires that:
- Hardware will conform to ANSI/BHMA Standards, minimum grade 2 requirements except for requiring “dynamic” load testing for a minimum of 50,000 cycles
- Hinges will be a minimum of 110 degrees opening capacity meeting ANSI/BHMA 156.9 and if being used in schools, hospitals or laboratories shall be tested to Grade 1 requirements.
- Drawer Slide Testing will be based on a drawer slide nominal length of 22” (559mm) mounted on drawer box:

- 22” (559mm) in depth with a minimum width of 18” (457mm) for load ratings up to 125 lbs. (56.7kg)
- 24” (610mm) in width for load ratings of 125 lbs. (56.7kg) and above

- Slides not manufactured in lengths up to 22” (559mm) will be tested in their longest production length
- Have the material suppliers name or unique brand marking stamped on hinges, slides, and locks for identification purposes
For all other products, the appropriate Declaration Form, declaring that the product has met NAAWS requirements, MUST BE INCLUDED with this application.
