Shop Drawing Inspection Program

Woodwork Institute’s Shop Drawing Inspection Programs go beyond design approval to find costly errors before construction begins.

Through these programs, a Woodwork Institute expert will inspect shop drawings, assuring compliance to the North American Architectural Woodwork Standards (NAAWS).

There are two inspection options available:

  • Certified Compliance Shop Drawing Inspection is of the shop drawings for compliance with the specifications and the NAAWS as to all required elements being included, and properly scaled.
  • The Monitored Compliance Shop Drawing Inspection also reviews the plans to check installation details compared the shop drawings. We verify that the sections and details on the shop drawings match or are compatible with the plans. We also compare the plans to the finish schedule and look at the specialty items like reception counters and paneling.

Both programs inspect the shop drawings to provide compliance assurance before you finalize your approval. Our staff will point out design misinterpretations, redirect before fabrication begins, and flag non-compliance to NAAWS.

Certified Compliance Program (CCP) Request and Authorization to Inspect

Add a shop drawing inspection as a minimum requirement to all jobs, and full certification to ensure the fabricated product is in compliance with the shop drawings.

Why only a shop drawing inspection instead of a full certification program? This program is great for when the job has a design-bid contract or is located outside of our normal service area.

Full certification programs include at least one on-site inspection of the fabricated product and its installation, after the shop drawing inspection. On-site inspections assure that the fabrication matches the shop drawing inspection and installation requirements.
